The Presidency has summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over the reported protest by some policemen in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday.
The policemen had reportedly protested over the non-payment of their monthly salaries and allowances for six months.
A source at the Presidential villa, Abuja, said that Idris visited the villa to brief the Presidency on the protest by the policemen.
But the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement, dismissed reports on the protest, claiming that the policemen only made inquiries on their allowances and salaries before returning to their duty posts.
The police spokesman said that the late passage of the budget caused the delay in the payment of the personnel’s salaries and allowances.
Moshood added that with the signing of the Appropriation Act by President Muhammadu Buhari, the issue would soon be addressed.
