The Presidency has denied reports that President Bola Tinubu has sacked Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso.
Unconfirmed reports emerged on Tuesday that Cardoso, who was appointed CBN Governor in September 2023 was asked to resign.
“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Cardoso to resign,” Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy stated via X (formerly Twitter), following the reports on Tuesday.
President Tinubu appointed Cardoso as CBN Governor in 2023 for a term of five years at the first instance to replace Godwin Emefiele.
According to the reports, President Tinubu ordered Cardoso to resign his appointment as CBN Governor, owing to his inability to stop the poor performance of the economy, most especially, the free fall of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.
