The management of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Sunday announced that it suspended all activities in the institution in the light of the growing insecurity within the school and the adjoining communities.
The school authorities however indicated that the ongoing second semester examination would continue despite the closure of the institution.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Adewole Soladoye, read that the current security situation would be reviewed following which appropriate decisions would be taken.
The statement signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Modupe Fawale, read, “The effort is to monitor the security temperature within the institution and its environment.”
It stated that academic activities, including conferences, seminars and workshops in the institution had, tentatively, been suspended.
“The authorities of The Polytechnic, Ibadan have suspended all public activities, including conferences, seminars and workshops in the institution and its environment until further notice apart from the ongoing second semester examinations,” it read.
The statement quoted Fawale as saying that the decision is part of the efforts to monitor the security temperature within the Institution and its environment.
Stating that the decision was aimed at curtailing breaches and in observance of the COVID-19 precautions, it indicated further that “By this, all deans of faculties, directors, heads of departments, religious bodies, students’ union, students’ representative counci, all staff and members of the public are to kindly abide by this directive which takes effect from Sunday, 27th of June.”
