… seeks marriage dissolution

A housewife, Taiwo Ayoola, has dragged her estranged husband, Jamiyu Ayoola, to a customary court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for allegedly accusing her of transmitting  “Magun” to him, after having a sexual intercourse with her.

Taiwo, who brought her husband to the court in a suit numbered: C/375/2018, also told the court that her husband of 27 years was fond of denying the paternity of some of the children whenever they had quarrel.

The mother of five accused her hubby of raining curses and using derogatory words on her in the presence of her daughter-in-law and his friends as well as his family, saying there was no place his husband couldn’t harass her whenever he was angry.

The woman leader of the All Progressives Congress at the grass roots level, said her husband once used the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad to arrest her and would not hesitate to beat her wherever they had disagreements.

She, however, told the court that it was her husband’s maltreatment that forced her to pack out of the house without his consent, adding that she could not continue to bear the shame of harassment from Jamiyu in the presence of her son’s wife, his friends and his family.

Taiwo, who is seeking to divorce her husband on the ground of provocation, no rest of mind, fomenting trouble, cursing, harassment and threat to her life, said that she would have loved to take the custody of her five children but if she made an attempt, her husband would beat the hell out of her.

She, therefore, sought an order of the court to dissolve their 27-year-old marriage and also restrain her husband from further coming to embarrass or molest her at home or at public places.

She said, ”I want this court to dissolve our marriage; my husband said that he contracted “Magun” from me and even said that he was not sure he was the father of all the children I had for him.

“He always beat me whenever he is angry and will always curse and abuse me in the presence of my son’s wife, his friends and even his family. He has used SARS to arrest me before and also like to harass me anywhere, especially when we have a quarrel.”

In his response, the husband denied all the allegations levelled against him by his wife, saying there was no time he accused Taiwo of contracting “Magun” from her or denying the paternity of any of his five children.

Jamiyu said that trouble started in their house when his wife first joined the Odua Peoples Congress but he was never against her political ambition as a woman leader.

The furniture maker, who accused his wife of extra marital affairs, said that his wife would travel for days to attend political meetings without bothering to call him about her movements from one place to another.

He said, “All my wife said are lies, I never said I contracted “Magun” from her or denied the paternity of our children. I only beat her when she joined OPC, but since she became a politician, I have never laid my hands on her.”

The President of the court, Mrs O. O Sam Obaleye, however, appealed to the couple to find a way to settle their rift amicably. She also called on the friends of the husband who appeared at the court to call both parties to order and settle the matter.

She therefore adjourned the case to March 27,
2019.
