After several weeks of investigations that took some operatives outside the country following the arrest of notorious kidnapper, Chukwujeme Onwamadike, a.k.a. Evans, the police in Abuja appear set to arraign him in court.
Although the details of the multiple offences he will be charged with remain sketchy, a competent source close to the Legal Department of the force at Louis Edet House, Abuja, hinted our correspondent that, “All the charges and exhibits have been assembled and the prosecutors are only waiting for the nod from the office of the Inspector General of Police. You know, this is one case that we cannot afford to bungle.”
Evans was arrested by police detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police Response Team led by Mr. Abba Kyarri, an assistant commissioner of police, after a prolonged hide-and-seek. Since his arrest by the IRT team, the suspect has made series of confessions to the police.
He has already confessed to kidnapping for ransom and armed robbery, among other criminal activities and has even named some of his victims.
Evans’ alleged criminal exploits have also taken the International Police to such countries as Ghana, South Africa and Malaysia among others. The suspect also confessed to owning choice property outside the country. Both items of value and other evidential materials needed for the diligent prosecution of his case were said to have been recovered from his mansions located in Magodo GRA of Lagos and Accra, Ghana, in raids said to have lasted hours.
Known as “King of Money” in Ghana, the notorious kidnap suspect lived like one until his arrest in his Magodo GRA, Lagos residence.
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, through the Force’s spokesperson, Moshood Jimoh, had told our correspondent that the raid on Evans’ houses would not have been possible but for the cooperation in the area of intelligence among West African police services.
“Information sharing among the Interpol helped us very well,”he said.
