The Ondo State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the death of a businessman, Sesan Adelabu, and his wife, Bolu.

Adelabu, also known as Emirate, reportedly committed suicide at his residence in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital on Friday after killing his wife for an unknown reason.

Emirate, who was said to be dealing in petroleum products, allegedly killed his wife with a machete and later ingested a liquid substance suspected to be insecticide.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, who had earlier confirmed the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, ordered the criminal investigation department of the command to begin an investigation into the matter.

The statement read, “The state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case of alleged murder and suicide of a socialite and petrol station owner, Sesan Adelabu, popularly known as Emirate, and his wife, Mrs Bolu Adelabu.

“On February 9, 2024, a distress call was received by the police of A’ Division Akure. The officer attached to the deceased in his house in the Alagbaka area in Akure, received a call from the deceased’s child around 6 pm asking after his father because he (Emirate) was not picking up his calls.

“The policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face-down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.

“An empty container of insecticide was also found at the scene. An investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and the scene cordoned off to enable police to do the needful.”
