Police gun down two highway robbers in Ogun

The police in Ogun in the early hours of Thursday engaged some suspected robbers in a gun duel at J4 Area of Ogbere, where the hoodlums hijacked a luxury bus heading to Porthacourt in Rivers State and robbed its occupants.
The robbers, numbering about eight, blocked the highway at about1:40 am, hijacked the luxury bus and drove it into the bush, where the passengers were robbed of their money, phones and other valuables. 
Luck, however, ran out on them, when the police got the information and the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division, Chief Superintendent Adeyinka Akingbade, led men of his of anti-robbery team, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol and other special units in the area to the scene. 
On sighting the Police, the robbers engaged them in a gun battle, which lasted for about 45 minutes. At the end of the encounter, two members of the gang were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds.
Three pump action guns, two locally made pistols, several GSM phones and three motorcycles were recovered from the suspected robbers.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who commended the gallantry displayed by the policemen, appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, to quickly alert the police if they see anyone with bullet wounds.
