Police drag man to court for punching 100-year-old woman, daughter

THE Police in Osun State have dragged a 27-year-old man, Abdullahi Salisu, before an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting a 100-year-old woman, Bintu Adamu.

Salisu was also accused of beating one Mrs Uman Adamu, said to be the centenarian’s daughter.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court on Tuesday that the defendant committed the offence on August 16, 2020 around 03:45 pm at Sabo, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conspired with others, now at large, to commit felony to wit assault.

He added that the defendant assaulted the 100-year-old woman by punching her. Salisu allegedly pounced on Mrs Uman and slapped her on the face.

The centenarian was said to have sustained injury on her forehead, owing to the blow.

The Prosecutor argued that the offence contravened sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2020.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy and assault slammed on him.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like amount.

The case was adjourned till September 24, for hearing
