The Osun State Police Command, on Friday, debunked report of attacks on Ofatedo community by suspected killer herdsmen.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Yemisi Opalola, in a statement, said the rumours being peddled were false.
Opalola said the information was a calculated attempt to create fear of insecurity in the state hence, should be disregarded.
“The attention of the Osun Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, has been drawn to the rumours making the rounds that some suspected herdsmen attacked Ofatedo area of Osun.
“The CP, in company with the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Mrs Abiodun Ige, personally paid on-the-spot assessment to the area to ascertain the authenticity of the news being speculated but found out that it was false and untrue.
“Consequently, the CP wishes to clear the air and state unequivocally that the rumours being peddled are false, a calculated attempt to create fear and sense of insecurity in the state. It should be disregarded.
“The citizens are urged to be security conscious, vigilant, cooperative and collaborate with security agents by giving useful and timely information. They should also report any suspicious movement or activities of criminals.” she said.
