The Osun State Police Command has arrested a vigilante member, Oguntolu Tirimisiyu, over an allegation of armed robbery.
Tirimisiyu, 55, a member of vigilante group in Apomu/Ikire town, was said to have conspired with others now at large to rob one Edward Taiwo of his bags of rice and an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to a police source, the suspect committed the offence on November 28, 2021 but escaped with the loot. The source disclosed that police had been on his trail and other accomplices, but he was arrested on January 13, 2022.
Tirimisiyu and other fleeing vigilantes, allegedly stopped Taiwo who was in transit from Ibadan, Oyo State, with two vehicles loaded with bags of rice at Ikire town and robbed him of nine bags of rice and cash sum of N500,000.
The victim was also said to have been forced to transfer the sum of N20, 000 remaining in his account to an account provided by the suspect and his gang.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the suspect’s arrest, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the exhibits.”
