Police arrest teenager for allegedly stealing N1.8m aluminum

The Police in Osun State have arrested a 19-year-old man, Toyin Olajide for allegedly stealing some goods worth N1, 880,000.

Olajide was said to have been arrested by men of Dugbe Police Station in Osogbo after committing the offence at Owode-Igbona area of Osogbo, capital of the state.

He allegedly carted away the aluminum alongside other suspects who are at large.

After completion of investigation, the suspect was dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court and slammed with two count-charges bordering on conspiracy and theft by the police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode.

The charge read, “That you Olajide Toyin and others now at large, sometimes in August, 2023 at Owode Igbona Area, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“That you did steal 32 Nell Aluminium worth Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira (N320,000.00K) only, 24 pieces of Aluminum worth One Million Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N1,560,000.00K) only all total valued One Million Eight Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira (N1,880,000.00K) only properties of one Olaoye Tunde and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002,” the charge read.

Toyin pleaded guilty to the allegations.

The defence counsel, Akin Babalola urged the court to grant the defendant bail, saying he would be available to stand his trial.

Magistrate M. A. Olatunji granted the accused person bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the same amount.

The matter was adjourned till August 22 for hearing.
