Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Eyitere Joseph, for extorting a member of the National Youth Service Corp.
The police officer allegedly extorted the sum of N50,000 from the NYSC member.
He was arrested on account of a video that went viral on social media where he allegedly demanded for money from the youth corp member for driving without a driver’s license.
The police officer attached to the Meiran division asked the corp member to pay N50,000 so as to be freed.
The N50,000 bribe was said to have been retrieved from the police officer and refunded to the victim.
It was learnt that Joseph was quizzed at the Provost unit of the Lagos State Police Command on account of unprofessional conduct.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CSP, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of the police officer on his verified Twitter handle.
He was quoted as saying that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Meiran division was cautioned to monitor the activities of his men.
