The Police in Osun State have arrested a 39-year-old man, Daniel Adelaja, for allegedly stealing property of the state government.
Adelaja was accused of sneaking into one of the offices in the state Ministry of Justice, Abeere, Osogbo and carting away property belonging to the government and civil servants.
The Point gathered that the suspect committed the offence on September 13, 2024.
Security sources said the property allegedly stolen were a stabilizer, power bank, and mobile phones.
The suspect also allegedly broke into a restaurant and stole a phone which belonged to a food vendor in Osogbo.
He was dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court and slammed with three count charges bordering on theft.
The charge read, “That you Adelaja Daniel, on 13th September, 2024 at about 2:30pm, at Osun State Ministry of Justice, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, Osogbo did steal one Century Stabilizer, valued the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000: 00), property of Osun State Government and thereby committed an Offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
“That you Adelaja Daniel on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal one New Age power bank and a mobile phone charger both valued the sum of Thirty Six Thousand Naira (N36, 000: 00), property of one Oyewumi Isiaka and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
“That you Adelaja Daniel, on the 14th day of October, 2024 at Yetty Mama Hotel, Odi-Olowo Are, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did steal one Infinix Smart 8 Android mobile phone valued the sum of One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N160, 000: 00), property of one Adekunle Tosin and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.”
However, Adelaja pleaded not guilty to the allegations. He did not have legal representation.
Magistrate A. O. Odeleye, ordered that the accused person be remanded in the Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter till February 24 for mention.
