The Kano State Police Command has arrested a man, Usman Engineer, for allegedly killing his close friend, Muktari Shekarau, over argument on a missing mobile phone.

Shekarau’s telephone set was said to have gone missing, so he decided to ask his friend, Usman, if he found it.

The suspect, who was reportedly provoked by Shekarau’s question, allegedly punched him. Shekarau, a middle-aged man, who reportedly lost his consciousness as a result, fell down and died on the spot.

Sani Shekarau, elder brother to the deceased, confirmed his sibling’s death, saying that the friends were quarreling over a missing mobile phone belonging to the deceased.

Sani said, “Usman is an operator of a public toilet in our community in Gwammaja Quarters. On that fateful day, my late brother’s phone was missing, so he asked Usman if he found the phone. He (Usman) got provoked and hit him with his clenched fist. My brother fell down and died.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said that the matter was still under investigation.

Kiwaya stated that operatives from the state police command were deployed to the scene of the incident and that Shekarau’s remains had been evacuated.
