The police in Ogun have arrested a man, Rasak Adekoya, for allegedly beating his 10-year-old son, Waries Adekoya, to death.
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested by policemen attached to the Ago-Iwoye Division following a tip- off from members of the community, who accused the man of subjecting the deceased boy to excessive beating over an allegation of stealing.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that preliminary investigation revealed several marks on the body of the deceased boy as a result of series of torture by his father.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, said that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital Mortuary, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, for autopsy.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.
The police further said that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigation.
