Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a driver, Ibrahim Musa and his accomplice, Mohammed Jazuli, for allegedly diverting and stealing a truck conveying a container filled with high density polythene products.
The owner of the stolen products had petitioned the office of the Assistant Inspector- General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, alleging the diversion and stealing of the said products with container number IPXU 3851370 and FCIU 2589517.
The matter was referred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone to track down the fleeing driver and his accomplices.
The Zonal Public Relations Officer of the Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said police detectives, who immediately swung into action, arrested the driver and his accomplice in Katsina State.
Adejobi, a superintendent of police, also said that the suspects had already confessed to committing the crime and had revealed the identity of the receivers of the stolen items that were sold at Mile 2, Lagos.
He added that the Fiat truck, with registration number LAGOS BDG 672 XK and the container used for the criminal act were abandoned and recovered at Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Adejobi said, “The principal offender, Tunde Omowunmi, who is a notorious criminal that conspired with the driver, Ibrahim Musa, and the receivers, namely, Fatima Abdulkareem, Iyabo Azeez and Iyabo Olaiya, have been arrested and charged to court in Lagos.
“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 2 Command, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, has again assured the general public of his commitment to tackle violent crimes and social vices within the zone and that he will promote principles of community policing and professional ethics in the Nigeria Police Force as contained in the Democratic Policing Values of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris.”
