The Police in Osun State have arrested a private car driver, Benjamin Famuyide, for allegedly distracting a team of crime detectives while chasing a gang of armed robbery suspects.
The driver was also alleged to have attempted to kill a Police Sergeant, Murana Ganiyu, while driving his ash coloured Toyota Camry car along the Old Garage-Igbona Road in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Famuyide was arraigned at an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for offences bothering on attempted breach of public peace and murder. The suspect was also accused of being in possession of an unregistered car.
The defendant, aged 29, according to Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, committed the offences on February 8, at about 2pm.
The charge against him read that “Famuyide Benjamin, on February 8, 2022 at about 2pm, at Old Garage, Igbona Road, Osogbo, did attempt to kill one Sergeant Murana Ganiyu with (an) unregistered Toyota Camry car, (ash colour) known as Muscle.
“At the same time and place, you did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by driving roughly thereby distracting the police when pursuing an armed robbery gang.
“You did unlawfully have in your possession one unregistered Toyota Camry car, (ash colour) known as Muscle.”
According to the prosecutor, the defendant committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 430, 320 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Magistrate A. K. Ajala ordered that Famuyide should be remanded in police custody till February 28.
