The Police in Osun State have docked two men, Alatise Damilola, 31; and Ayomide Faleti, 29, at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo over allegations of theft and attempted stealing.
Damilola was accused of stealing a hand chain worth N435, 000 at a residence at Dada Estate area of Osogbo while Ayomide was alleged to have broken into an apartment at Hallelujah area in the town with intent to steal.
The defendants, who faced prosecution separately, pleaded not guilty to the respective charges brought against them.
One of the charges read that “You, Alatise Damilola, on the 23rd of August, 2022, at about 6am at Dada Estate area of Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial district, did steal two hand chain valued at N435, 000 property of one Olasunkanmi Imoleayo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”
The defence counsel, Najite Okobe, prayed the court to grant his client bail and assured that he would not abuse the bail privilege.
The bail application was not objected to by the prosecutor, ASP Abiodun Fagboyinbo.
Magistrate A. O. Daramola admitted Damilola to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties, he said, must be a sibling or parent of the defendant who must provide three-year-tax-clearance-certificate.
The matter was adjourned till September 22 for hearing.
In the case of Ayomide, Fagboyinbo told the court that the defendant engaged in burglary with intent to steal at about 10pm at Halleluyah Estate, Osogbo, on August 26.
The police prosecutor said that the defendant was apprehended when he broke into the apartment of one Jafia Emmanuel at the odd hour of the day for unjust reasons.
The defendant allegedly committed the offences contrary to and punishable under sections 509 and 411 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11 Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the same sum.
According to him, the surety who must present evidence of tax payments and affidavit of means, with passport sized photographs, must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned till September 30 for mention.
