Police arraign two suspects for robbing pedestrians of bag, cash, other items

Two robbery suspects have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly robbing residents of their belongings.

Kamorudeen Quadri, 35-year-old, was accused of carting away gadgets worth N187,000, while Abdulkareem Mohammed, 32, was alleged of stealing items valued at N267,500.

Quadri was docked on three-count charge bordering on unlawful possession and theft.

Police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, alleged that the defendant, on September 27, 2022 engaged in theft along Inisa Road, Ikirun, Osun State.

Fagboyinbo said that Quadri stole one Infinix Note 10 mobile phone valued at N94, 000, property of one Adebisi Saheed.

The charge against him read that “You, Kamorudeen Quadri, did steal three mobile phones, including one Itel mobile phone valued at N10,000; one Pall 5 android mobile phone valued at N40,000; one Techno android mobile phone valued at N40,000 and one Chaoba barbing clipper valued at N3,000, property of one Salaudeen Abiola, totaling N93,000.

“You (defendant), on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully have a Flatron Television, Starlight Stabilizer and Qlink Stabilizer in your possession.”

The prosecutor said that the defendant committed offences contrary to sections 383 and 430 and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The defence counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, pleaded for the bail of the accused person, stating that the alleged offences are bailable under the law.

The presiding Magistrate, A.K Ajala, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in the same amount.

In a related case, Mohammed was accused of stealing a bag containing the sum of N250,000, one Techno mobile phone valued at N13,500, one wristwatch valued at N4,000 and one IBEDC prepaid card, totaling N267,500.

Mohammed was said to have committed the act on September 10, 2022, at about 10pm at Oke-Fia area, Osogbo, Osun State.

The alleged stolen items belong to one Iyabo Abdulsalami, a pedestrian who was said to have been robbed by the hoodlum.

The defendant appeared in court without any legal representation.

Magistrate Ajala granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety whom, he said, must be a responsible citizen.

The case was adjourned till October 13 for mention.
