Police arraign two for stealing N6.2m sales proceeds

The Police in Osun State have arraigned two sales persons before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly stealing the sum of N6, 283, 800.
According to the police, the alleged stolen money was part of the proceeds from sales.
The accused persons, an 18-year old boy, Oladele Glory Tobi and Adewale Janet, 20, were said to have committed the offence between June 2019 and February 2020 at Checkers Supermarket, opposite Government House Annex, Oke-fia, Osogbo.
Police prosecutor, Adegoke Taiwo, told the court that the first defendant, Tobi, stole the sum of five million, seven hundred thousand naira. (N5,7000,000) while the second defendant, Janet, stole N583,800.
Taiwo said that the stolen amount were proceeds of sales of provision, cosmetics, foods, drinks and household items which belonged to one Igbalaye Oluwayomi.
The prosecutor argued that the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9)(6), Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Defence counsel, Olatunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, granted the two accused persons bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Ayilara adjourned the matter till June 17 for hearing.
