The Police in Lagos State have arraigned a 29-year-old man, Muyiwa Agboola, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly being a member of a proscribed secret cult, Aye.

The suspected secret cult member was also accused of being in possession of a dagger and a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The accused person was arrested and arraigned before the court by policemen attached to the Amukoko Police Station for conspiring with others at large to become members of a secret society.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ojemhi Augustine, told the court that the accused person and others, still at large, were holding their unlawful secret society meeting at Turner Street, Amukoko, Lagos State, when he was arrested.

Why do the Police suffer this fate always? At the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, Cadet ASPs and Inspectors have not been paid their allowances since the inception of the Academy five years ago till now. And they include those who are graduating later this year

According to the first count of the eight-count charge brought against Agboola and others at large, they conspired among themselves “to be members of an unlawful society and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The third count charge read in part that Agboola and others, at large, “did unlawfully belong to the Aye secret cult and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 42 (9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”

While the fifth and sixth count charges read that the accused persons were harassing people and extorting money from them, while armed with some charms, the seventh and ninth counts said the accused persons were likely to cause breach of peace in the area, as they barricaded the street’s access road.
