The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a 30-year-old-man, Ifeoluwa Omidoyin, before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo for allegedly stealing some electric cables and damaging a transformer.
Omidoyin allegedly committed the offence on the night of October 27, 2022 at the GS Agriculture Nigeria Limited, Owode-Ede.
The police said that the stolen cables and the damaged transformer belonged to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, explaining that the defendant removed some other fittings from the transformer.
The charge against him read, “Ifeoluwa and others now at large, on or about the 27th day of October, 2022 at night time at GS Agriculture Nigeria Limited, Owode, Ede, Osun State in the Ede Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and willful damage of electricity transforming plant.
“You (defendant) and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, did unlawfully disconnect, remove, and/or damage electricity transforming plant property of IBEDC by cutting out cable wires and other fittings.
“You and others now at large, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal electric cables valued at N450, 000 (four hundred and fifty thousand naira) property of IBEDC.”
Police prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, informed the court that the defendant committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 451 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Volume Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
However, Ifeoluwa entered into a not guilty plea without having any legal representation.
Magistrate I. R. Ladipo granted the accused person bail in the sum of N300, 000 with one surety in the same amount. The matter was adjourned till December 16.
