Police arraign four men for robbery, damage to 4 vehicles

The police in Lagos have arraigned four men before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for alleged armed robbery, assault, damaging of four vehicles and stealing in the metropolis.

The four men, Jamiu Olufeko, 18; Fabian Akachukwu, 18; Moses Jaiyeola, 20; and Lekan Saka were said to have committed the offences at Ijaiye Street, Ajegunle, in Lagos.

The Investigating Police Officer, Sgt. Owoneye Dada, who was attached to the Ajeromi Police Station, brought the accused persons to court.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, who brought an 11-count charge against the accused persons, said that the four did conspire among themselves “to commit felony to wit robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

In the second court charge, the prosecutor said the accused persons “did with application of violence and offensive weapons, steal one Samsung phone valued N48, 000 and cash sum of N15, 000 all total valued N63, 000, property of one Nasiru Salisu ‘m’ and thereby committed offence contrary to and punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

Benedict said in the third count charge that the accused persons “did assault one Nasiru Salisu ‘m’ by hitting him with cutlass on his left hand which caused him harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

The prosecutor said in the fourth-count charge that the accused persons at Olowojeunjeje Street, Ajegunle, “did willfully and unlawfully damage windscreen of a Toyota Camry with registration  Number AAA 238 AW valued N24, 500, properties of Hassan Lukman and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the fifth count charge, the police said that the accused persons and others at large  “did willfully and unlawfully damaged the windscreen of a Toyota Camry with registration number KJA 239 AR valued N17, 000, property of Abdullah Jimoh and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The prosecutor said in the sixth count charge that the accused persons “did  willfully and unlawfully  damaged windscreen  of one  Volkswagen  Passat  with registration number JJJ311CX valued  N46, 000, properties of one  Joshua Ntiedu  ‘m’  and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350  of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The seventh count charge read that the accused persons “did with application of violence and offensive weapons, steal one Infinix phone valued N50, 000, a wrist watch valued N11,000, and palm sandals valued N14, 000, all total valued N75, 000, properties of one Mustapha Rasaq ‘m’  and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the eighth count the police said the accused persons “did willfully and unlawfully damage a show glass  valued N25, 000, property of Mustapha Rasaq ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section  350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the ninth count charge, the police said the accused persons “did  assault one Mustapha Rasaq ‘m’  by hitting him with  cutlass  on his head and hand,  which did him  harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section  173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The tenth count charge said that the accused persons “did willfully and unlawfully  damage windscreen and door glass of one Volkswagen  Bus with registration number FST 742 XK  valued N54, 000 , properties of Akinyele Christopher ‘m’  and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the last count charge, the prosecutor said that the accused persons “did with application of violence and offensive weapons, steal one Tecno phone  valued N25, 000, property of Bamidele Mistura ‘f’  and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties that must be well-known persons.

The sureties must have paid their one year tax clearance. The sureties will sign undertakings that they must stay away from complainants/ victims.
