Plateau United coach, Kennedy Boboye, has vowed not to surrender the leadership position of the NPFL to any club in the series. He said despite their postponed duel with Enugu Rangers, his boys had been training hard to keep their place in the Nigerian league.

One of the Plateau boys, Kabiru Umar, also confirmed that despite being afforded a free day, the Peace Boys will continue to work on their fitness. “Sports is about fitness, there are schedules and routine activities.

If one misses out it might mean starting all over again,” Umar said. “Not being in action doesn’t mean we should go and rest, work continues. Training continues because we have to keep our fitness level intact.

The league is a marathon so it’s important to follow the set of our schedule and routine to achieve an optimal result. We shall keep a close eye on the games that will be played on Sunday just to know how the table will look like and also monitor our next opponent.”

Plateau United lost its top spot on the league table after Matchday 18 after second and third placed teams, El-Kanemi Warriors and MFM played in Lagos.

Despite his side’s impressive run in the topflight, Plateau United’s coach Boboye said he was planning to strengthen his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

The Rwang Pam Stadium outfit is seriously contesting the NPFL top position this season.

“We will definitely be strengthening our team in the middle of the season because there are one or two places we are lacking,” Boboye said.

“We will fill in those spaces and move on from there,” he continued. Boboye also credits continuity for his side’s superb performance, saying: “I’m not a person that like to change most of the players I meet at my club, I believe in continuity, and this has been helping us all along.”

“There are just a few new players that were able to break into the team at the beginning of the season, most of them are old players.
