Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam, has called on religious leaders to preach peaceful coexistence and promote activities that would unite the citizens.
Pam made the call on Sunday at the inauguration of district officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau.
The executive secretary, who was the guest preacher at the event, admonished religious leaders to use the pulpit to entrench peace and not hatred in communities.
He also urged church leaders to live exemplary lives to build the nation.
“This event shows the importance of peace; if not for peace, we will not be here sitting, smiling and rejoicing.
“Everybody would have been somewhere struggling to protect his families.
“Peace is key to our success and progress as a people.
“ I want to call on religious leaders at all levels to preach peace, tolerance and togetherness.
“Let use the positions God has placed us to do things that will make our society better and greater,” he advised.
Pam commended the government and people of Plateau for working to sustain peace.
“My joy is that peace has returned to Plateau; because of that activities are going on here and there.
“It is because of peace that, for the first time, we are going to uplift pilgrims from Plateau.
“There is nothing that can be compared to peace; so, let us do our best in our little ways to promote peaceful coexistence,” he urged.
Pam called on the residents of Plateau to be vigilant at all times and report suspicious people and movements around them.
He also called on the newly-inaugurated district officials to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.
He also advised them to carry everybody along in their assignment. (NAN)
