FORMER Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has appealed to warring factions of the Peoples Democratic Party to sheath their sword and embrace peace.

Oyinlola, who is leading the party’s Reconciliation Committee in the South West, said it would be counter-productive for members of the party to be at loggerheads till election day.

He spoke during a meeting he convened in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, which was not attended by the Sunday Bisi-led faction of the party.

At the meeting, held at the Ideal Nest Hotel, the former governor said all stakeholders, including those that were not in the camp of the factional PDP Chairman, Soji Adagunodo, were invited to the crucial meeting.

Oyinlola said, “I am hoping that by the time the national reconciliation committee will come, probably they would have changed their minds. What is paramount is the interest of the party. If they truly love this party, you cannot continue fighting.

“If we continue to fight and fight till election day, what do you want to tell the electorate? I want to use this opportunity to appeal to them that they should sheath their sword. Why are we fighting? What are you fighting for? What we should be fighting for is how we are going to get to the government?”

He said what should be of importance to stakeholders was how to get the sympathy of the electorate in forthcoming elections.

While Adagunodo’s supporters attended the meeting, the pro-Ayodele Fayose faction did not honour the invitation.

The factional PDP Chairman however expressed optimism that the crisis rocking the party would soon become a thing of the past.
