Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has released the sum of N200 million, out of the second tranche of the Paris Club refund the state government accessed, for the settlement of gratuity and other benefits to staff of local government councils, who retired before April 2011.
The Director-General, Nasarawa State Pension Board, Abdullahi Sani Oseze, disclosed this in Lafia, shortly after commencing payment to the various beneficiaries from across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Oseze explained that about 345 retirees of that category would benefit, while those not captured in the present dispensation would soon be considered.
“The exercise is a continuous process as those who could not be captured at the moment, like those that retired after April 2011 and others that retired on the payroll of the state government, would be considered in the next exercise,” Oseze said.
