Team Nigeria boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore was withdrawn from the Paris Olympics women’s tournament after testing positive for a banned doping substance, according to the International Testing Agency at the weekend.

The 22-year-old African Games lightweight champion tested positive for the diuretic furosemide in a sample collected Thursday, according to the ITA.

Furosemide acts as a masking agent, hiding the presence of other medicines.

According to the ITA, Ogunsemilore is provisionally suspended and will be unable to compete at the Olympics.

She was scheduled to compete in the round of 16 on Monday as the fourth-seeded boxer in the women’s 60-kilogram (132-pound) division.

Ogunsemilore won the All African Games title in her weight class earlier this year and a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

It is the second adverse drug test disclosed during the Paris Olympics.

Iraqi judoka Sajjad Sehen tested positive for two anabolic steroids, the ITA also announced Friday.

Meanwhile, Olaitan Olaore was defeated in the men’s 92kg boxing heavyweight preliminaries at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Oralbay Aibek, who won 5-0 on points.

Kazakhstan’s Oralbay drilled Olaore to advance

to the next round of the Boxing event in Paris.

Aibek won all three rounds, with all five judges deciding in his favour in all the rounds, scoring 30-26 points overall against Olaore.
