… Group alleges Gov holding committee members hostage
BY MAYOWA SAMUEL
The deepening cracks in Osun State All Progressives Congress may see the party hold parallel congresses in the state today.
This is even as a group within the party called the Progressive Youth Movement is accsing the Governor of orchestrating division in the party.
In a statement on Saturday, the group alleged that the Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was holding officials from the national secretariat, who had arrived Osun from Abuja for the ward congress slated for Saturday, July 31, hostage.
The group in a statement titled: “Parallel Congresses in Osun as Governor holds APC Congress Committees hostage” and signed by Rasheed Ropo, advised the party’s leadership at both the national and regional level to intervene.
According to the statement which described the development as sad, the group accused Governor Oyetola of allegedly “leaving no stone unturned, to divide the party and reverse the legacy that produced him.
“The Governor has hijacked the Ward Congresses process, illegally camping APC Congress Committee using the DSS thereby denying thousands of party members from accessing congress forms all in the name of entrenching division of the party,” it further alleged.
Other allegations against the governor include, “preventing APC ward congress committee members from presenting forms to willing aspirants at the party secretariat; rather arranging a photo-op with the caretaker Chairman, while thousands of members couldn’t get forms as well as moving party operations from Osun APC party secretariat to government House.”
Governor Oyetola’s camp had already reacted to the claims by members of the party as the party’s Director of Publicity in the state, Kunle Oyatomi, accused party members of attempting to frustrate the party’s effort to deploy the consensus option.
