A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Chukwuemeka Philomena Ekpereamaka, has been reportedly abducted.
Ekpereamaka, a 100 level undergraduate of the Department of Education English of the university was said to have been kidnapped by some gunmen at her hostel located within the campus.
The incident reportedly happened at about 12noon on Sunday, July 14, 2024 around around Balewa Hostel of UNN.
It was disclosed that the victim told her hostel mates that she was going to meet with her boyfriend downstairs, only for them to discover that Ekpereamaka was no longer around the campus, sparking fear among the students.
Two days after her disappearance, The Point gathered that her abductors established contact with one of her roommates identified as Chioma Ogbonna through her telephone to demanded the sum of N5.5 million ransom.
This latest reported kidnapping is coming few days after the management of the institution confirmed the tragic death of a first-year student whose lifeless body was discovered in a drainage on Friday, July 5.
The deceased, identified as Favour Okenyi from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, was found near Akanu Ibiam Stadium within the university premises.
In a statement issued in Nsukka, the university’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the incident.
He said the university community was deeply shocked and saddened by the unfortunate death of the young student.
The statement condoled the deceased family and said that the university authority was collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death to prevent any recurrence.
Even as the killers of Favour were yet to be apprehended, concerned students of UNN and parents have called on the management and security agencies to curb incessant disappearance and killing of students on campus.
