The Oyo State council of the Trade Union Congress has issued a five-day ultimatum to the Oyo State Government to pay all outstanding salary arrears owed workers in the state.
TUC, in a statement by it Chairman, Comrade Emelieze Andrew and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Ilesanmi Lawrence, said that the five-day warning was to enable government to not only pay the arrears but also the accrued interest on the salaries.
The union, while urging the people of the state to prepare for mass action to occupy the State Secretariat next Monday, advised the governor to resign should the government fail to meet their demands.
The statement reads: “This is to advise the state governor to resign if he cannot pay workers salaries. We want the people to start preparing for a mass action to occupy the state secretariat on Monday, August 8.
The TUC also berated its sister union, the Nigeria Labour Congress for what it described as unholy alliance by signing a satanic agreement that was inimical to industrial harmony in the state.
“You will recall that the Oyo State government and the NLC entered into an unholy alliance by signing a lactiferous and satanic agreement that is inimical to industrial harmony in the state.
“The agreement is illegal, illegitimate and unacceptable to the TUC. The agreement is baseless and callous; we reject it in all its forms and entity. It is a product only good for the dust bin.
The Congress also called on the Federal Government to fix the country’s economy, saying that the effect of the hardship was becoming more devastating on citizens.
It also called for an improvement in the standard of living of the internally displaced, especially those in the North-Eastern part of the country.
