The Oyo State House of Assembly today elected Hon. Olagunju Ojo as Speaker.
The position of the Speaker in the state Asembly became vacant following the death of former Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo on April 27, 2018.
Ojo, who represents Oriire State Constituency in Oyo State was elected amid tight security at a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abdulwasil Musah.
The new Speaker contested with the Deputy Speaker and Hon. Segun Ajanaku, who is Chairman, Parliamentary.
Until his emergence as Speaker, Ojo was Minority Leader in the state Assembly.
Lawmakers had kept their choices to their chests until the election was held at today’s plenary.
Meanwhile, journalists and other interested stakeholders were barred from witnessing the process.
The lawmakers had proposed the three candidates for the position using the yardstick of competence, commitment and popularity.
However, fndings showed that Olagunju is the favoured candidature of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
It was learnt that the governor had expessed his support for Olagunju during a meeting earlier held with the lawmakers.
