Leicester City are deep in relegation trouble after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in a Premier League encounter at the King Power Stadium at the weekend.
Three players of Nigerian descent were in action from the very beginning, including Wilfred Ndidi, who made his first Premier League appearance in over two months, as well as Caleb Okoli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Despite Arsenal having injury issues in attack, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz unavailable for selection, they registered a huge win to keep their title hopes very much alive.
All thanks to super-sub Mikel Merino who netted a brace in the last ten minutes playing as a false nine.
In a cagey first half, Leicester City were happy to keep the title chasers at bay but Ndidi came closest to breaking the deadlock.
The Super Eagles midfielder rose to meet a well-delivered deep cross from the left, but his glancing header drifted just past the far post.
Speaking on Premier League Productions at half-time, Liverpool legend Michael Owen slammed Ndidi for squandering a key chance that could have put Leicester ahead at the interval.
He said: “Good chance. Definitely he should have done better. Gabriel actually gets drawn to the near post and leaves a huge gap. He (Ndidi) makes a late run.”
The last time Ndidi contributed to a goal in the Premier League was in September’s fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
