THE Federal Government, on Tuesday, said that over 5.04 million people had so far applied for the N- Power Batch C scheme.
The government aims to employ 400,000 people, both graduates and non-graduates, in Batch C.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development said this in a statement on Tuesday, while officially announcing the closure of the registration of Batch C of N-Power.
The ministry had on June 26 commenced the registration process for the N- Power scheme, which was initially scheduled to end on July 26 this year.
The Ministry, however, extended the date by two weeks to give room for those that were unable to apply for the scheme.
“A total of 5,042,001 Nigerian youths have applied as at the end of the exercise,” the Ministry said.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, re-assured Nigerians that the selection process would follow due process and merit would be prioritised.
“The Ministry will ensure that the applicants, as well as the general public, are kept fully informed on the progress of the scheme,” Farouq added.
According to her, only women and persons with disability will be prioritised during the selection process.
She said the N-Power program was targeted at providing the Nigerian youths with opportunities to gain skills for employability and entrepreneurship.
This, she stated, would help in assisting the country towards the post COVID-19 economic recovery.
The minister reiterated the commitment of the ministry to the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.
According to her, the N-power is one of the platforms that could assist in the realisation of poverty reduction in the country.
