The factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Alimodu Sherriff, and other prominent members of the party, stormed Osun State on Wednesday to canvass support for the candidate of the party in the Osun West Senatorial bye-election scheduled for Saturday, Dr. Ademola Adeleke.
Sheriff, who was part of Adeleke’s mega campaign train to Apomu in Isokan Local Government area of the state, alongside the party’s Chairman in the state, Mr. Soji Adagunodo; Senator Iyiola Omisore and the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, urged the electorate in the Federal constituency to vote massively for Adeleke, to enable him to complete the tenure of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, in the Senate.
While addressing party supporter’s during the campaign, the embattled PDP national chairman said, “The beginning of the transformation of PDP’s unity has come to Osun State and I want to assure you that the party is now one. So, I want you to vote for PDP in this Saturday’s bye-election.
“Today is the day that begins the transformation of the PDP. Osun State PDP is intact today and that also shows that unity has come to Osun State. Therefore, I want this unity to continue after Adeleke’s victory in the election and I am sure my friend, Senator Omisore, will agree with me.”
Also speaking at the event, Adagunodo appealed to the crowd of supporters to vote for Adeleke.
He charged them to embark on house-to-house campaign to convince the electorate on the need to vote for the party’s candidate.
He urged party loyalists in the local government areas visited to monitor their votes from the polling booths to the final collation center in Iwo, the senatorial district headquarters, in order to avoid manipulation.
In his remarks, the party’s candidate implored supporters to vote for him during the poll in order to end the tenure of the All Progressives Congress, which he claimed had held the state to ransom in the last seven years.
He promised residents in the local government that he would continue with the “giant strides” his late brother, late brother was known for.
“I am promising you today that I will disburse N25 million to each of the ten local government areas for scholarship, if I am voted as senator,” he said.
Other PDP stalwarts, who attended the campaign rally included the former governorship aspirant of the Labour Party, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade; member of the House of Representatives, representing Ibokun/Oriade, Hon.Oluwole Oke; Hon.Kayode Oduoye, Senator Olasunkumi Akinlabi and Alhaji Ganiyu, among others.
They all urged the people to vote for PDP in Saturday’s bye-election.
