The Osun State House of Assembly has disclosed its readiness to regulate lottery and gaming in the state.
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun indicated his intention to sponsor a private member bill titled: “The Osun State Lotteries and Gaming Bill 2023” on the floor of the house on Tuesday.
In his letter, which he read at plenary, the Speaker explained that the bill’s primary objective was to establish a robust regulatory framework that would govern lotteries and gaming activities within the state.
According to a statement by Olamide Tiamiyu,
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, the bill aims to prevent underage participation, curtail addiction, uphold consumer protection, and promote a responsible gaming environment in line with best practices.
“The Osun State Lotteries and Gaming Bill also proposes establishing an Agency named ‘Osun State Lotteries and Gaming Commission’, which will have the authority to oversee the gaming industry in the state,” it said.
Egbedun added that the bill also seeks to harmonise existing laws on lotteries and gaming into a single comprehensive legal framework, as this would aid business activities in the gaming industry in the state.
He requested that the bill be included in the plenary agenda of the house for legislative consideration.
