The chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye, has raised alarm that the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo has been sealed up.

He disclosed this while featuring on a live current affairs radio programme monitored on Saturday.

Abioye expressed surprise that such step could be taken, claiming that despite the actions of the police, the local government election had started across all polling units across the state.

He also said he had left the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun in the hands of God.

He also lamented that police presence was not visible at the polling units.

“I leave the police IGP in the hands of God. Election has started earnestly in all the polling units across the state but no police presence is noticeable from the information available to me,” Abioye said.

Recall that the Nigeria Police advised the state government not to go ahead with the poll, citing security concerns and legal implication.

When The Point visited the OSSIEC headquarters in Osogbo on Friday evening, the office had been deserted as at 6:20pm as some police officers were seen at the gate.
