Residents of Alalamu in Apomu town, Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State have arrested two men and dragged them to the police for allegedly stealing cable wires from a transformer located in the community.
It was gathered that the suspects, Amodu Rufai, and Abioye Olojede, at about 6:00am, on July 4, 2017, allegedly went to a transformer belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and serving the people of Ikoyi area of the community to remove a cable wire from it.
The suspects were said to have disconnected the functioning transformer before removing its cables.
But luck was said to have run out on Rufai and Olojede, who were apprehended by some residents of the area, and later dragged to the police division in the town.
The police, however, dragged the two men before the an Osogbo Magistrate’s court over a two count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police prosecutor, Mr. Mireti Wilson, in a charge sheet obtained by our correspondent said, ” That you, (accused persons) on the 4th July, 2017 at Alalamu community, Ikoyi in Apomu at exactly 6:00am, did steal cable wires from an electric transformer belonging to IBEDC.”
Wilson argued that the offence contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Their counsel, Miss Bose Dada, applied for their bail in liberal terms, saying that there were reliable people to stand for them.
Magistrate Fatimah Sodamade granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She added that the sureties must produce three passport photographs and also present three years tax clearance.
Sodamade adjourned the case till August 17, for hearing.
