A former governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has boasted of taking over reigns of power in the state after the 2026 governsohip election in the state.
He maintained that there is no negotiation in the desire of his political group winning the forthcoming poll.
The former governor expressed confidence that any candidate his group would be presenting to contest the election would emerge victorious.
Aregbesola leads Omoluabi Progressives, a political organisation in the state.
The Point reports that over a month after Aregbesola’s group announced its decision to quit the All Progressives Congress, the organisation is yet to make known the political party it would collapse its structure with for the forthcoming election.
Recall that immediately the group announced its exit from APC, the leadership of the party swiftly announced Aregbesola’s expulsion.
APC accused the former Minister of Interior of anti-party activities, insisting that Aregbesola colluded with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke to defeat Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC in the 2022 gubernatorial poll in the state.
Abosede Oluwaseun, spokesperson of the group, had said members resolved to quit APC because of “ostracisation from the party, suspension and expulsion of leaders without fair hearing, and continuous denigration of the structure”.
Oluwaseun disclosed that group members expressed their readiness to join another political party ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Meanwhile, Aregbesola, while speaking recently at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilesa, said the group’s vision to entrench good governance in Osun is still intact, saying, “Abere, no negotiation.”
In a video, members of the group were seen singing and hailing Aregbesola, expressing confidence of ruling the state as from next year.
They said they would soon gather in Abere, the Osun State Government House to rejoice over their expected electoral victory.
