Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen failed to hit the target as champions Napoli rallied from a goal down to force a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Genoa in Serie A at the weekend.
Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Politano scored in the second half to help the Parnatenopei not fall to a second consecutive defeat.
With seven points from four games, Napoli has temporarily climbed to fifth place in the standings.
The visiting champions were well-defended by Genoa, who made a successful comeback to Serie A after being demoted in 2021–22. Defender Mattia Bani gave Genoa the lead in the 40th minute by putting the ball in the back of the net after a corner.
After halftime, Italian attacker Mateo Retegui scored the second goal for the hosts with a first-time shot into the lower left corner.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia attempted to score for Napoli in the 72nd minute, but Genoa custodian Josep Martinez easily stopped his low effort towards the left corner. Napoli was useless in front of goal.
Raspadori, however, offered Napoli a chance for a comeback shortly after by cutting the margin with a strike into the top corner.
After the break, Mateo Retegui, an Italian attacker, gave the hosts a second goal with a first-time shot into the lower left corner.
The goal gave Napoli motivation, and six minutes from time, substitute Politano equalised with a close-range volley, preventing Genoa from picking up a second victory of the year.
Napoli will next travel to Bologna on September 24 for a league match. They begin their Champions League campaign at Braga on Wednesday.
