Former International, Friday Ekpo has advocated for the return of the country’s national team to the care of a local coach, saying that only an indigenous coach could salvage the dwindling fortunes of Nigerian football.
He appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation to jettison the idea of hiring a foreign Coach for the national team.
Ekpo said that appointing a foreign manager is a harbinger for further rifts and trouble in the NFF and Nigerian football.
The former international argued that given a level playing field and the necessary support, a country with the number of brilliant Coaches like Nigeria can produce a real winner.
The NFF are in the process of hiring a foreign Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles but have also named Salisu Yusuf as chief Coach, a decision Ekpo welcomes.
