About a month after serving a jail term for stealing, a 25 year-old- man, Saheed Adeoti, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly perpetrating another crime of stealing.
The ex-convict was accused of breaking into some residents’ apartments and stealing their electronic gadgets and other belongings.
Adeoti, who appeared in court covered with bruises he sustained from beatings by a mob, was slammed with five count-charge bearing on attempted felony and theft.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the accused person committed the offence on 19 and 20 of August, 2017 at Halleluya area and Oloki Estate in Osogbo.
Abiodun said the ex-convict broke and entered into the house of one Atanda Hammed with intent to commit felony. He said Adeoti carted away his victim’s LED television valued N43,000 and jewelleries valued N15,000.
At Oroki Estate in Osogbo, Adeoti was accused of breaking and entering into the house of one Oyetunde Oyesiji with intent to commit felony. The prosecutor said the accused stole a DVD player valued at N10,000 and one fluorescent lamp valued at N10,000, which were property of one Oyetunde Oyesiji.
The offence committed by Adeoti is contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He did not have legal representation.
The prosecutor objected his bail, saying that Adeoti just returned from prison custody, where he had served a jail term for the same offence. Abiodun argued that releasing the accused person on bail would make him commit more offences.
But Chief Magistrate Sodamade Olowolagba ignored the prosecution’s objection and granted the ex-convict bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till October 5 for hearing.
