One chance robbery syndicate involves in accident while fleeing crime scene in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has said it arrested two suspected highway robbers after dispossessing a traveler of her belongings in a commercial vehicle they jointly boarded.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adeola Adeoye, on Wednesday, explained that the suspects were apprehended by the police and members of Ikire community in the state after the suspects’ vehicle involved in an accident while fleeing the crime scene.

Adeoye explained that the incident happened on March 3, 2025 at about 7:20am.

He gave the names of the two arrested male suspects as Wasiu Kehinde, aged 41 and 29 year-old Yusuf Makinde Idris.

The PPRO said both are ex-convicts, adding that their arrest was sequel to the alarm raised by the complainant, who boarded a vehicle in Ikire occupied by three men who pretended to be passengers coming to Osogbo, but on getting to Balogun area, Ikire, she was held hostage by the men who tied her legs and hands together, also blindfolded her, collected her phone, and demanded for ATM card and cash from her.

According to him, “The suspects later made a U-turn and headed towards Ibadan axis, but on getting back to Balogun area, Ikire, the vehicle had an accident. The victim raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of the police and members of the community.

“Collaborative efforts of the police and members of the public yielded the arrest of two suspects, with one at large. A Mitsubishi Space Waggon vehicle with Reg. No. MUS 495 JR, one Android Huawei phone, and a piece of cloth were recovered as exhibits.

“Suspects confessed to the crime, and they will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.”

Similarly, Adeoye said police operative from Ikire Division arrested one Sunday Kayode Abiodun, aged 30, for conspiring with other suspects and burgling the ATC Network site located at Unity area, Ikire on January 2, 2025 at about 12:39 am.

He said the suspect carted away 15 inverter batteries worth ₦75,000,000.00 (seventy-five million naira), adding that Kayode was arrested with the efforts of the security men attached to the site when he went to the same site with other suspects who escaped from the scene on January 15, 2025, to steal the solar batteries used to power the communication mast.

“The case was subsequently referred for discreet investigation, which led to the arrest of one Akeem Sakariyau ‘m’ 42 yrs, Bankole Monsuru ‘m’ 29 yrs, Akanbi Femi ‘m’ 38 yrs, Balogun Lateef ‘m’ 30 yrs, and Ojetola Abdulganiyu ‘m’ 47 yrs.

“One OPEL CAR with Reg. No. EPE 96 HN LAGOS, a pipe wrench, cutting pliers, a screwdriver, an OPC ID card, a UBA ATM card, and a reflective jacket were recovered as exhibits.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the receivers of the stolen items who are on the run,” the police image maker said.
