ZENITH Labour Party and its Candidate in the October 10 Governorship Election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, have refuted a report that the party is in alliance talks with the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, ahead of the poll.

The ZLP said its only alliance was with the people of Ondo State, in its efforts at ensuring the ouster of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, candidate of the ruling APC.

Spokesperson for the ZLP, Felix Olatunde, said the report by a newspaper, not The Point, which he described as a “blatant lie”, could, at best, be a product of the author’s imagination.

The Deputy Governor also alleged that the report was planted in the media by Akeredolu’s strategists to discourage his supporters.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo, Agboola said the report came out barely 24 hours after he was denied the use of government facility for his campaign flag-off, claiming that this exposed the sponsors’ sinister motives.

The deputy governor said, “Let it be known to the members of the public that there is no romance between the candidate of ZLP and that of PDP after the governorship primary that produced Eyitayo Jegede as the candidate of PDP. There was no offer and rejection of running mate from the PDP leadership or Jegede to Ajayi as insinuated by the fake publication.

“The said publication has failed to prove any nexus between the two candidates and tried unsuccessfully also to impugn the character of the Deputy Governor.

“We say emphatically that the Deputy Governor is winning the forthcoming governorship election slated for October 10, and he is willing to welcome candidates or other political parties who may wish to support his aspiration to rescue the state from the misrule of Akeredolu’s government.”
