CONTRARY to a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity for the Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, Zadok Akintoye, that the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, had confirmed his decision to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, latest developments indicate strongly that the deputy governor may dump the PDP formally this week.
The Point had reported that Agboola had met with leaders of Zenith Labour Party, including the National Leader of the party, Olusegun Mimiko, with a view to getting ZLP’s governorship ticket.
Ajayi, who had lost to Jegede in the last PDP primary election in the state, had said he contested with different forces, but indicated his willingness to remain in the party.
However, his plan to move again, according to sources close to his camp, is as a result of his determination to actualise his ambition of defeating the incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress.
A source told our correspondent on Sunday that the deputy governor was waiting for the green light from ZLP to make his next move official, in order not to find himself in an awkward situation.
“We believe that, with his popularity and acceptance by the people, he will win the next election in this state if he is ZLP’s candidate,” the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.
“As of now, they are perfecting plans for substitution of names at INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) so that it will be official that he is the ZLP governorship candidate. He will resign from the PDP formally and join ZLP. I can tell you that. Forget about what anyone is saying in PDP,” he added.
