Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has again been given the ticket to fly the All Progressives Congress’ flag in the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the state.
He won the keenly contested APC indirect primary, which took place at Dove Centre in Akure, defeating seven other spirants in all the state’s Local Government Areas, with 2,458 votes.
Olusola Oke followed with 262 votes, while lsaac Kekemeke, came a distant third with 19 votes.
Akeredolu had been optimistic in his address to journalists before and during the exercise that God would see him through and make him victorious at the end of the poll.
“In the APC, we know those who have been delegates over the years since APC came to be. We all know who the delegates are. I know the God I serve, He will do me well and all plans will fall in place,” the governor had told journalists.
Over 3,000 delegates voted in the election held between 2pm and 8.30pm on Monday. Counting of votes ended at about 11.25pm.
Other aspirants are Jumoke Anifowose, Sola Iji, Awodeyi Akinsehinwa, Bukola Adetula and Olayide Adelami.
Some other aspirants, such as lfe Oyedele, Olusegun Abraham, Jimi Odimayo and Nathaniel Adojutelegan had earlier stepped down for the governor.
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, who chaired the primary election committee, and announced the results at the end of the exercise, said Akeredolu’s victory showed that APC members in the state love him.
