A former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Ondo State, Sola Amodeni, has vowed to consolidate on the strides of the All Progressives Congress in his quest to lead the ruling party in the state.

With the party yet to announce a date for the congresses, the contest for the top seat, zoned to the Ondo North senatorial district of the state, is already gaining momentum with contenders such as Victor Olabimtan (former Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly), Lasisi Oluboyo (former deputy governor), and Kolawole Babatunde (former MHR) already showing interest.

The position is currently occupied by Ade Adetimehin, under whose leadership the party has recorded two governorship victories and maintained internal unity.

Amodeni, during his declaration in Akure, the state capital, expressed confidence in his ability to lead the party, citing his vast experience in governance and party administration as key qualifications for the role.

According to him, the APC in Ondo State has recorded significant progress in recent years, and his leadership would ensure the sustenance and improvement of strides and successes, particularly unity among members and future elections.

Amodeni, who had also served as a former local council chairman, emphasised his commitment to fostering unity among party members, enhancing grassroots mobilisation, and implementing strategies that would solidify the APC’s dominance in the state.

He said, “I have been deeply involved in Ondo State politics and have gathered significant experience. I once contested for the chairmanship of Akoko South East Local Government under the Alliance for Democracy and, to the glory of God, I won. I performed excellently in that role.

“While everyone is qualified, my consistency and loyalty speak volumes. I’ve served faithfully at both local and state levels. People trust me to keep my word.

“I once received the national award for Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria. Even under a government that rarely recognised opposition achievements, I was acknowledged.

“I pioneered poverty alleviation programmes later adopted by PDP at the federal level. It started here in Ondo state, and my efforts led to an assessment team from Abuja, which resulted in my national recognition.

“Whether or not it’s considered different, what I intend to do is bring everyone on board. There will be synergy between the party and the government.

I’ll maintain constant engagement with the governor and offer sincere, godly counsel based on my experience.

“I’ve served as Executive Chairman of a local government and as a state commissioner twice. I intend to use my experience to guide the administration constructively—both spiritually and politically.”
