Following the away victory over South Africa at the weekend, Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere showered his team with praise.
The Nigerian girls triumphed 3-1 over their hosts at Pretoria’s Lucas Moripe Stadium.
After 20 minutes, Nigeria took the lead thanks to Shakirat Moshood.
The Flamingos’ lead was increased five minutes before halftime by forward Harmony Chidi, who scored from the penalty spot.
But two minutes after halftime, captain Katleho Malebana gave the home team a score from the penalty spot.
Chidi’s second goal of the match in the 68th minute gave Nigeria a two-goal lead again to seal victory.
“We had a good result, but we need to improve on a few things for the next game, as I know South Africa is also going to improve,” Olowookere told reporters.
The second leg is scheduled for next Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The winner of the overall standings will guarantee a spot in the last qualifying round.
