A commercial motorcyclist identified as Papa Ejime has reportedly taken his own life in Oghara town, headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday after several failed attempts to reconcile with his wife, who left him and took their children with her.
Sources revealed that Ejime’s marriage fell apart due to his chronic gambling addiction and repeated incidents of domestic violence. His wife reportedly endured years of abuse before finally walking away.
A source disclosed that earlier this year, Ejime had violently assaulted his wife, knocking out her front teeth, despite her being the one shouldering the family’s financial burdens, including rent, feeding, and the children’s school fees.
“Papa Ejime used blow (fist) to remove his wife’s front teeth earlier this year and the woman is the one paying almost all the bills for the house, including feeding, house rent and children’s school fees.
“Ejime wife’s recently moved out of their house with her children after many years of enduring domestic violence,” the source said.
Distraught over the separation and unable to persuade his wife to return, Papa Ejime allegedly took his own life.
Meanwhile, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright said the case in question was not reported to the command.
“The case was not brought to our attention. We have no record of such an incident,” the police spokesperson said.
