Police, in Ogun State, have arrested a 40-year-old okada rider, Kinsley Madukwe for allegedly beating his wife, Glory Madukwe to death over her refusal to breastfeed their new born baby in the night.
Kinsley was arrested following a report by one Chief Rafiu Gbadamosi, the Baale of Egando in Atan-Ota area of the state that the suspect and his wife had a minor misunderstanding which resulted to the beating of the woman to death.
The Police Public Relations Office, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the DPO of Atan-Ota, SP Salau Abiodun acted on the strength of the report by leading his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
Oyeyemi said that the suspect, who hails from Ihiala in Anambra State confessed in the course of interrogation that he woke up his late wife at night to breastfeed their one month old baby who was crying but she refused and gave the excuse that she was too tired to breastfeed the baby at that time.
The PPRO explained further that the victim, a mother of eight children, got up and was going to the sitting room leaving the baby behind and this got the suspect angry and he drew his wife back and gave her a hot slap which made the woman fell down and gave up the ghost immediately at about 11:30pm.
According to Oyeyemi, the corpse of the victim had been deposit at the mortuary of Ota General Hospital for post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
